Brunch Date with Mommy

Daddy went to play basketball this morning so Mommy took the kids out for brunch and took silly selfies.

Run, Princess Emma!

Pre -K Star of the Week

Tyler has been "Star of the Week" this week. It's a little different than last year (http://cruzinwithtyler.blogspot.com/2014/04/tyler-star-of-week.html?m=1). This year, we got some stars to put pictures or words for some of this favorite things. Much easier than an elaborate poster board.

His favorite thing to do is play with Daddy.  His favorite place is the beach.  His favorite colors are all colors. His favorite food is noodles and all sorts of other things. His pet is Kotaro. And he wants to be a doctor like Daddy when he grows up.

Every day he got to bring a show and tell. He brought a remote control car, a basketball, a sushi transformer toy, and a car.

Like last year, there is a treat to be handed out on his last day, Friday.  For the treat, we decided to go with a Halloween theme. Since oranges are one of his favorite things, we drew pumpkin faces on them for his friends (assuming the sharpie on the skin is ok...).

Happy "Star of the Week"!

Mustache?

T's Pre-K School Pictures

Here are all of them - big smiles, serious smiles, but smiles in all.  Not sure he looks much different from last year, does he? .... http://cruzinwithtyler.blogspot.com/2013/10/tylers-preschool-pictures-2013.html

Emma's First Haircut

It was time. Emma's hair was nice and long but a little too "shaggy" so I took her in for a haircut on Tuesday since she was off from school.

I had a hard time deciding where to take her for this event. Boys are easy - their hair is short and grows out fast. But girls... I contemplated taking her to someone who does mostly grown up hair because I wanted her to have long layers, but in the end I decided to make it easy and take her to a place near Tyler's school that has a kid theme.

She loved the whole experience. It was super girly. To start, she had her hair washed.

That was followed by a Barbie jeep and her haircut.

Of course, there was a TV to distract her.

Next was a blow dry.

Followed by clips.

Her favorite part - nail polish.

She had the best time ever.

Her hair -  She had about an inch and a half taken off. You can't notice a big difference but it's definitely cleaner and less shaggy. She is totally a girly girl.

Still Napping

There will be a day soon when T will no longer need a nap. It is slowly happening - there are afternoons when he stays in our room (where he naps) for a given period of time and rolls around trying to sleep hoping to earn 2 sticks (10 minutes of game time). But, thankfully, most days he still sleeps and I love seeing his peaceful, sleeping face. :)

Emma the Goat Whisperer

Emma likes animals, but mostly from afar. Except for goats. She will eagerly pet them and feed them. She has had a couple occasions of encountering "hungry" goats and has gotten a little scared, but it hasn't stopped her from going back.

This is from Saturday at Happy Hollow. I think she would have been happy hanging out with the goats all day.

First Day of Pre-K

Another school year has started for T. He was super excited to be back at Merry Moppet and become a pre-kindergartener.

Here he is with Emma, ready to go.

Big smile upon entering his new classroom and seeing lots of familiar faces from last years class.

Had a great first day!

Emma's First Day of School 2014

I didn't get a proper picture, but here is Emma changing into her "uwabaki" (indoor shoes) at school. Not smiling, but definitely not crying. Huge improvement from last year. :)

Exhaustion

This is what happens when someone is exhausted but refuses to nap and throws a tantrum only to be ignored.

T at Japanese Summer School

This week (the 2nd of 3) T's class at Japanese school made an "omikoshi." It is a portable Shinto shrine that is carried during festivals.

Here is T hard at work.

And here he is with the final product (he drew the second boy from the right).

In 2 weeks he has learned to write his name in Japanese (けんじ) and has been practicing other hiragana. He is good at saying his greetings when he gets to school and when he is leaving and shows interest in learning Japanese. I'm so impressed by how much he has learned in 2 weeks and hope that he will continue to be interested in learning the language and the culture.
