Taking Over Our Bed

Last night Tyler insisted on sleeping in our bed. I obliged. I actually didn't think he'd fall asleep because he has asked to sleep in our bed before but has then asked to go to his room.

Last night he fell asleep. And took over. He sleeps like his mama. He turned 180 and hogged the bed. See for yourself.

Tyler and Mommy Thursdays

Every Thursday morning T and Mommy have a date. Mommy wanted to give T and E some one on one time so fortunately we get to have Anna watch one of them while Mommy does something with the other. E hasn't started an activity yet, but will on Tuesday mornings. For now, Mommy and T start every Thursday at My Gym.

My Gym is a blast. Every week they mix up the space and have new activities for the little ones. Today, T learned the word "car wash." Here he is taking his ride through bubbles and pom poms.



He also learned to climb a wall with a rope.



And do a forward roll.

He then got to throw balls



Followed by a little puppet show before "socks, shoes and stamps."


After class, we try to meet up with friends, go to the park, or find something to do to spend more time together. Today, the weather wasn't great so we needed an indoor activity and since Daddy was able to sneak out of work to have lunch with us we went to the mall to run around.

We first started with some hot chocolate for T and coffee for Mommy at Starbucks.

We then hung out at the Disney store before meeting up with Daddy for lunch.

It was a good day. T went to bed saying "car wash." :)

Playing Together

Emma has become a lot more interactive and it seems that she and Tyler are enjoying each others company more and more each day.

Here's a video clip from about a couple weeks ago of the two kids playing together.

Tyler also decided that he needed to comb her hair.




But when it came to hugs, E seemed to feel a little too smothered. :)




Tonight, during their bath, Tyler was splashing water in front of Emma and she was laughing hysterically. The video is on the main camera so it'll have to be shared another day. But it was the highlight of the day to see the two of them so happy together.

Sittin' Pretty

Ladies and gentlemen, our little lady has started to sit on her own. She can't stay sitting for very long nor get to sitting position by herself yet, but when positioned, she can sit long enough to have her picture taken.

First comes sitting, then comes crawling (well, that's how it normally goes but T decided to crawl then sit which is very fitting with his personality). Watch out world, here comes E!

A Sunny Morning at the Park, Followed by a Nebulizer and Avocado

We started the morning at a park near Stonestown Mall which is where the kids pediatrician is located. Both kids have been dealing with a pretty icky cold so we had appointments later in the morning.

Tyler had a blast at the park. It was the perfect size for him, had sand, and was a manageable space for Mommy who had both kids. He was even really good at sharing his sand toys with a couple boys we met.

After playing for a little while it was time to go to our appointment. T was amazing. We'd spent the morning talking about seeing the doctor and playing with his stethoscope. He even wore his doctor shirt today and knew what to expect. So, after waiting a long time (T was so patient) we finally saw the doctor and he sat in the chair by himself while he got examined. He did great and Mommy was so proud of him.

Tyler got sent home with a cold and no major symptoms. Emma, on the other hand, got sent home with a nebulizer for wheezing. Poor lady. She has to be held down while we treat her with albuterol. She got one treatment at the pediatricians office and another at home. She hates it but I think she feels better afterwards.

Here she is hanging out with Mommy while T took his nap. She hasn't been this happy in a couple days.



And here she is at dinner tonight after giving herself an avocado facial. :)



Unfortunately, she mustn't feel that great still because the sleep training went out the door tonight. She didn't want to be put down in her crib and there is no sleep training when one is sick so let's cross our fingers that once she's better she'll go back to sleep and we won't have to start all over again.

Emma "Started" Solids

At Emma's 4 month appointment the pediatrician said we could start Emma on solids if we want. When it was Tyler's time to start solids the recommended age was 6 months. Now it's mixed. So, Mommy decided to go with the middle ground and chose 5 months to start Emma on solids. She also decided to try something different - baby led weaning. The idea is that babies don't need to start with purees. They can start with finger foods. If they are interested they will put it in their mouth and will know what to do. By allowing the baby to control his/her food intake, they learn to enjoy food and control the amount they eat so they don't overeat.

So.... Today Emma got some steamed carrot sticks and avocado. She took to both and put them in her mouth and chewed, but either it wasn't soft enough or because of her congestion she couldn't quiet swallow and actually ended up gagging and throwing it up.

Not sure what this means. Maybe she's not ready to start solids just yet? Mommy loves the idea behind baby led weaning but not the gagging. We might wait till she can actually breath through her nose and try again. Will keep you posted.

Sleep Torture Part 2

Maybe it's some sort of initiation or something. The way things were with Emma the first 4 months I thought she wouldn't have to be subjected to sleep torture. But, not all things stay the same with little growing babies and her amazing sleep habits went out the door right after I told her pediatrician at her 4 month appointment what a great sleeper she is (she'd give us about 7 hours, even 10 a few times).

Tonight the sleep torture began. She cried, rolled, kicked, screamed for an hour and 15 minutes. Yup. Had she gone on an extra 15 minute we would have come to her rescue but she did it - she "soothed" herself to sleep (or wore herself out).

Crossing my fingers the rest of the week will be easier. I have to keep reminding myself that it did wonders for T.
